Apple Introduces the HomePod

Since the original iPod, Apple has innovated the way we've listened to music. Now, with the Apple HomePod, you'll be able to do more than just blast your favorite tunes. The HomePod is a wireless speaker, a smart home hub, and a Siri-enabled intelligent assistant all rolled into one device.

Measuring just less than 7 inches tall and weighing just 5.5 pounds, the HomePod features a compact design. However, don't let its small size fool you. The Apple-designed upward-facing woofer ensures deep, clean bass with low distortion while the custom array of seven beam-forming tweeters (each with its own amplifier) provides balanced timbre, as well as precise directional audio control. The six-microphone array features advanced echo cancellation, which enables Siri to hear your commands, even from across the room while loud music is playing.

Powered by a custom Apple A8 chip, the HomePod features automatic spatial awareness, which allows it to sense its location in the room. The HomePod can then automatically adjust the audio for an optimal listening experience. While you can stream your favorite songs and albums from your iTunes purchases from your iPhone, an Apple Music subscription (sold separately) will give you access to more than 45 million songs, where you can browse by genre, mood, and even activity.

The HomePod is more than just a wireless speaker. It has Siri built in so you can ask it to send messages, set reminders, check the weather, get sport score updates, and more. Looking to make a call? Use the HomePod as a speakerphone for your iPhone. Siri isn't just limited to what your iPhone can do.

Combined with HomeKit and smart home accessories, you'll be able to ask Siri to control parts of your home, like turn on the lights, close the shades, and more. Not home yet? You can access the HomePod remotely or set up home automations through the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.

Apple is updating the HomePod in the future. Later this year, Apple will provide a free software update that will allow you to play music throughout the house with multi-room audio using multiple HomePod devices. You'll be able to ask HomePod to play the same song in different rooms in complete sync. If there is more than one HomePod in one room, you can set the speakers up for a stereo audio experience.

The Apple HomePod is available in space gray or white.
