New Z2 G4 Workstations from HP

0Share

HP has introduced the Z2 G4 workstation lineup as a successor to the Z240 series of workstations. Let's take a look at what HP has cooked up, as the Z2 G4 comes in three distinct form factors: Mini, Small Form Factor (SFF), and Tower. The new series offers processors, memory, storage, and graphics to handle virtually any task across a wide range of disciplines.

HP's Z2 G4 Mini Workstation delivers next-level performance for architects, creative professionals, education labs, and more. Built for those undertaking designs in 2D or 3D CAD, the Z2 G4 Mini can support single- and multi-threaded software and is certified for Bentley MicroStation, AutoDesk AutoCAD and Revit, GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD, Vectorworks, SolidWorks, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and XD. It is ¼ the size of a Z2 G4 Small Form Factor System and using a separately sold VESA mounting sleeve, it can be secured under your desk, behind your monitor, or mounted in a rack.

The Z2 G4 Small Form Factor Workstation can do everything the Mini does, but better. It can handle single- and multi-threaded applications, including graphics-intensive 2D/3D CAD programs, but has been tailored more for product designers rendering 3D models for project visualization, architects running 2D drafting and 3D design workflows, and OEM users undertaking mission-critical installations in healthcare and life sciences or command and control centers. It is certified for SolidWorks, Creo, Solid Edge, Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit, Bentley MicroStation, GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD, and Vectorworks.

Designed for BIM workloads, 3D CAD modeling, and rendering, the Z2 G4 Tower Workstation delivers server-grade power. Built for architects, product developers, and education labs, the HP Z2 G4 Tower is certified for Adobe, Avid, SolidWorks, Creo, Solid Edge, Bentley MicroStation, GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD, Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and Vectorworks.

HP Z2 G4 systems are available in configurations with Intel® Core i3™ to Xeon processors, 2666 MHz DDR4 memory, hard drives or SSDs, integrated or dedicated graphics, two DisplayPort 1.2 outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, and Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). If you'd like to add external storage drives or other peripherals, the Mini system has one 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port and four 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, while the SFF and Tower systems have six 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two 480 Mb/s USB 2.0 Type-A ports. For additional flexibility in network and peripheral connectivity, the Mini system has 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Each system can also have its components upgraded and expanded, including the internal storage, memory, and graphics, between the internal 2.5" and 3.5" drive bays, M.2 slots, and PCIe slots. Larger form factor systems feature more expandability options than the smaller ones, so if you'd like more flexibility for system upgrades and expansion, the Z2 G4 Tower is for you. If you're more concerned about having a system with a smaller footprint, go with the Z2 G4 Mini.
